چکیده
Aim: The study is aimed at determining the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern and production of Extended-spectrum Βeta-Lactamase (ESBLs) among Escherichia coli isolates from urine samples.
Methods: A total 35 samples early morning mid-stream about 10-15 ml were collected Michael Okpara University Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU) female hostel students; using sterile plastic containers. Each sample was inoculated on MacConkey Agar (MCA). Isolates identified based morphological features, Gram staining, biochemical characterization. antibiotic test done by Kirby Bauer Disc diffusion method Muller Hinton agar. ESBL detection as per Clinical Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI) guidelines, double disc synergy method.
Results: reviewed a 12 which (34.29%) obtained samples. results showed that most susceptible to Ofloxacin with 83.3% susceptibility, followed Levofloxacin (66.7%), whereas gentamicin, nalidixic acid, cefuroxime, cefotaxime exhibited rate 33.3%. On other hand, highest resistance imipenem (96.7%), Amoxicillin ampiclox 83.3%, while least percentage observed in (8.3%) (16.7%). E. detected 25.0% potential producers. result multiple index isolate (E20) significantly higher than p<0.05, E3, E7, E10 E12 had same pattern.
Conclusion: So drug due severe threat UTIs, narrowing down choice antibiotics for treatment. So, there need introduce routine screening all uropathogenic coli, causing urinary tract infections.

Biofilm and Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase Production amongst Uropathogenic Escherichia Coli Isolates at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria
Background and Aims: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are considered major reservoir for genes encoding antimicrobial resistance. The mechanism of resistance and persistence of UPEC has been attributed to the production of biofilm and Extended Beta Lactamase (ESBL). This hospital-based prospective study determined how biofilm and ESBL production facilitate antibacterial resistance amongst ...
متن کاملLytic Activity of Isolated Phage from Milk Against Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase Escherichia coli
Background and purpose: Escherichia coli (E.coli) is the most common cause of urinary tract infection. The treatment strategy has been hampered by the emergence of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing E.coli and its resistance to most antibiotics. Bacteriophages are suggested as an alternative treatment option. This study aimed at evaluating the lytic activity of isolated phage from unpaste...

The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of ESBL-producing E. coli in agricultural fields of Gorgan district, Golestan province. Soil samples were collected from 20 agricultural fields, half of them treated with chemical fertilizers and the rest with bovine manure. Two samples, from surface and a depth of 15cm, were taken. After enrichment and culture onto MacConkey agar, Pink colored...
متن کاملThe Prevalence of TEM and SHV Genes among Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases Producing Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella Pneumoniae
Objective(s) Production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) by enteric bacteria continues to be a major problem in hospitals and community. ESBLs producing bacteria cause many serious infections including urinary tract infections, peritonitis, cholangitis and intra-abdominal abscess. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of ESBLs producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiel...
